Woodbine Photo Blog

Woodbine Race Track.  The backstretch.  Most of us never get a chance to see what goes on behind the scenes. I feel privileged to have had a glimpse.

While I’m not normally the photographer I did bring along a camera to take some pics.  Here are some of my favourites.

The grooms… grooming.

Meet Musketeer.  He prefers to be turned out in an outdoor pen to hang out with his teddy bear where he can see all the action. No stall for this boy.

I love the contrast of the track, horses and riders against the industrial background.

And on to the track…
The feeling of standing by the rail watching this unfold… amazing. It’s quieter than you’d expect thanks in part to Polytrack.  What’s Polytrack you ask?

It is a mixture of silica sand (80-90%), recycled synthetic fibers (carpet & spandex) and recycled rubber. In cold climates, the mixture may also include jelly cable (plastic insulation from copper phone wire). The entire mixture is coated with wax. (via wiki)

Next we got up close and personal with Excaper and Rahy’s Attorney.

I love the lighting in this shot.

These purple flowers caught my eye.

Shots from the Press Room

Olympic Gold Medallist, Rosie MacLennan (official draw master) and the voice of Woodbine Racetrack, Dan Loiselle.

And the pièce de résistance…
