I think the caption on my Instagram photo said it all… “SQUEE! @GHoleDoughnuts”. I’m very excited they’re here. The fact that they decided to open practically across the street from me, well, that’s a little bit dangerous. I have a real soft spot for incredible baked goods and these definitely fall into that category.
I popped in this afternoon only to find out they were sold out. But wait… there would be a fresh batch ready within the hour. ”Do you follow us on twitter? We’ll tweet when they’re ready.” I went home and patiently waited for the tweet. I’m not sure who’s behind the twitter account but baker Ashley Jacot De Boinod, as well as another staff member were there when I returned. Using twitter to announce a fresh batch of doughnuts is brilliant and I was not the only customer in the shop.
I opted for half a dozen choosing lemon meringue, the lemon filling is perfect, the meringue light and fluffy. pretzel, a great combination of chocolate and pretzel, cookies and cream, self-explanatory and the Elvis with peanut butter frosting, topped with banana chips, nuts, bacon and toasted marshmallows. So good.
It’s nice to see my little piece of Parkdale changing. New businesses opening. New businesses that offer something a little different. Owner and baker Ashley Jacot De Boinod has struck gold and I think they’ll be here for a good long time.
You can find them at 1596 Queen Street West. They’re on Facebook and twitter
